A: It should. All of these open carrier differentials are very similar and this kit has worked quite well for many of the customers we have dealt with that have the Ford 8.8 with the small engine head. You can remove the pin from a 01 F150 8.8 open differential. Just go slow, because the bit is long and can break easily – although the bits on the new Deluxe ST1440 Differential Kit is a Cobalt bit and much stronger than the older version. If you do break the bit you can get a replacement on our website, but chances are that with the newer, stronger bit mechanics will no longer have that issue.
The important part is the bolt with the hole in it. It allows the bit to go in straight and protects the threads on the carrier. We now have the ST1442 Cobalt Drill Bit which is sold separately in case you have one of the older kits and want to purchase a replacement bit.
And we recently created the new ST1441 Differential Pinion Shaft Lock Bolt Extractor Kit PRO, which comes with The MIghty Worm – a 26″ long magnetic pick up tool you can use to get the shavings of your old threads out of the differential after you have removed the old, broken bolt.
